Youth cultures

Youth culture or subculture is a group of young people that has its language, fashion style, interests, music style and behaviour.

- "I am the representative of hip-hop culture. Nowadays it is one of the most spread cultures. All my friends have the same interests. It is a rich youth subculture; it may be even called art. We listen to rap, hip-hop and reggae. And some of us even try to sing it. Break dance is also the essential part of our culture as well as graffiti."

- "Punks not dead. Our culture is one of the most ancient. The Beatles and Rolling Stones were those who influenced organization of the movement of punks. Some people believe there are no real punks any more. But look at me (showing at his Mohawk and piercing) I am not only punk thanks to my aspect but also thanks to my preferences in music, clothes, behaviour. All of us are crazy."

- "We (hippies) are free. We can do anything we want without considering people's opinions. We are free in everything: in love, sex, politics, drugs taking. There are no social rules for us. The movement of hippies has always been important as it even played an important role in politics in 70-s of the past century in the USA. The function of hippies is extremely important as we take care of nature and piece."

- "Emo-kids are people who are not ashamed to show their emotions and feelings. If you see a boy crying in the street, be sure he is emo. Depression is the main element of our culture but not the only. Out colours pink and black transmit the main idea of emo-kids. We may get extremely happy because the spring came and at the same time we may get upset because winter ended. So pink is the symbol of good and positive emotions and black is the symbol of negative feelings."

- "Rastafari religion gave the impulse to development of youth subculture. The traditional understanding of the word "rastaman" is a person who smokes cannabis and listens to reggae music. But our culture is much more interesting. First of all we are the followers of Rastafary religion and on base of this religion we live. Our traditional colours are green-gold-red. Rastamen can be found in all parts of the world, however first it appeared in African countries and originally was proper for Negroid race. Nowadays all people who like reggae may join this movement."

Youth subcultures may be very influential. Therefore people of the world pay particular attention to them. You can hardly find a teen or a young person who didn't belong to any subculture.
