Youth and music
A great number of music styles have appeared recently. Preferences of young people depend a lot on subculture to which they belong and on their mood. The world has changed, and it also brought changes to all spheres of life.
So the most spread styles of music are:
- Electronic body music was introduced and spread by Belgians "Front 242" that used this term on the cover of their debut album in 1984. From that time this notion is used to name electronic dance music. The representatives of this style are The Klinik, Nitzer Ebb, Vomito Negro.
- Pop-music is considered to be not only popular music style but also modern youth subculture. This music is based on traditional rhythms in music, but every country and nation adds some specific peculiarities to it. Pop-music is the most spread and developed style in music. There are a lot of prestigious competitions such as Grammy Awards where the best singers are awarded and honoured.
- Reggae has become very popular recently thanks to subculture of rastamen and hip-hop culture. First it appeared in Jamaica in 60s of 20th century. It is very similar to ska and rock steady but differs from them by its special beats. Later blues influenced it also. According to some experts, hip-hop and rap music developed on base of reggae.
- Rap music is maybe the most famous in the world after pop-music and rock. It is spoken song lyrics based on rhythm and rhyme. Rap is the music peculiar to hip-hop culture. In fact it is a mixture of song, poetry, music and speech. It is based on beat. Sometimes rapping even has no instrumental accompaniment. All necessary sounds are created with the help of mouth and hands. Battle rap is based on freestyle rapping.
- Techno is the music genre that appeared in 1980 in Detroit. It is based on electronic instruments sounds. Thanks to this music, a dance style also called "techno" appeared. Besides, this genre of music has a lot of subgenres that have developed in many countries of Europe. The most famous techno artists are Juan Atkins, DJ Hell, Paulo Nascimento, Kirk Degiorgio, Speedy J. Techno music is often associated with electronic music or dance music. But this genre combines electronic and dance music on base of techno sounds produced by the instruments.
Music has particular influence on our life and especially on life of youth. Sometimes young people don't listen to music they like trying to follow the modern trends.
It is very hard to find the style that had no features of other styles. All music genres are interconnected and they influence each other. And even hard-rock may not be so hard if some elements of ska or reggae are added to it.
It is impossible to speak about the negative or positive influence of modern music on young people. After all tastes differ and some people may hate universally recognised music.
The main feature of youth is the desire to protest. And one of manifestations of their protest is music they listen and subcultures they develop.
