Fears of youth

Sometimes it may seem that young people have no fears and they are not afraid of anything. They risk their lives, don't depend on opinion of society, don't worry about their health. They are ready to try everything in spite of its danger and risk.

But in reality, young people have a lot of fears that threaten not only young people but the whole society. Some of these fears are funny, others are serious, and some fears turn into phobias.

So what are the fears of youth?

- Internet disconnection. There are a lot of teens that are internet addicted and can't spend a minute without internet. They spend all their time on-line and sacrifice their study and health. Sometimes they don't even have their meals because can't tear themselves from computer. Their life is in the internet and they prefer virtual world to the real one. Teens find new friends, meet their boyfriends and girlfriends, play games, work and spend money in the internet. And when they have no access to the internet because of something, their reaction may be unpredictable. Some of them become aggressive and rude, others are afraid because they are not addicted to real life. So the majority of people consider internet disconnection to be the real tragedy.

- Unwanted & unplanned pregnancy. Young people are afraid to start the adult life before they are ready for it. According to statistics 12% of girls don't have sex because they are afraid to get pregnant even using condoms. But despite this fact, young people still don't think about consequences when they have sex. 52% of guys don't use condoms when they have sex. Unfortunately the majority of youth has only superficial knowledge about contraception and pregnancy. Most of them think that a shower after sex will save them from unwanted pregnancy.

- Cancer and AIDS. These two diseases threaten the whole world. And young people are especially subjected to these diseases. First of all youth is very democratic in sex. Young people have several sexual partners and don't use contraception that may not only prevent unwanted pregnancy but also protect from sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS. Young people try all kinds of sex. Homosexual relations are also favourable for the spread of AIDS as during sex homosexuals don't use anything to protect themselves from AIDS. The spread of drugs and the lack of hygiene cause AIDS too.

Usually fears make people be more careful and watch their way of life. But modern youth is a paradox. Instead of taking measures, they only give favourable background for the development of their fears. Therefore it is useless to fight with these fears.
